Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey talks about the serious head injury she sustained during her career.
Rousey remains one of the most influential fighters to ever grace the sport of MMA. However, the former Olympic bronze medalist has made very few MMA-related appearances since stepping away from combat sports, has participated in MMA media, and has said little about his career.
Although glimpses of her fighting career are rare, Rousey spoke to Cageside Seat and revealed that she suffered a series of concussions.
“Whenever I got touched or jabbed, I started having concussion symptoms and couldn't even tell my coach,” Rousey said. “I couldn’t tell my husband. [White] about it. Because they would make me retire. They wouldn't let me fight. And I wasn't ready to let go. I wasn't ready to accept that I couldn't do everything perfectly. Because in order to get to that level, I had to believe in that. ” (H/T Bloble)
Ronda Rousey talks about the damage done to Holly Holm
Rousey rose to the top of the sports world, but it didn't take long for things to fall apart. She suffered a decisive knockout loss to Holly Holm and then made her comeback nearly a year later against Amanda Nunes, but lost by first round KO. She will never fight again.
Rousey spoke further about her career and revealed the extensive damage she sustained in her fight with Holm.
“The first time I got touched in that fight, all my bottom teeth fell out and I had to stand up for the whole match,” Rousey said. “She didn't realize how far away she was from me, if that makes sense to her. And [I was] I can't see things right away. Usually when I'm fighting, time stretches out and everything appears in slow motion. It was like being in a fog and not knowing anything about the area. ”
