Promoter Bernard Hopkins believes the fight between Ryan Garcia and Errol Spence is one of the two most “promote-friendly” megafights in the sport. Hopkins believes the Garcia-Spence fight is a money-making machine that brings in “soap opera” drama for fans and a lot of cash.
He feels Garcia-Spence is at the “top of the food chain” in terms of entertainment and fan interest. There will be a lot of interest in the fight between former unified welterweight champion Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) and Garcia, especially now.
The only other fight Hopkins thinks he could contend with is a rematch between Ryan (25-1, 20 KOs) and Gervonta “Tank” Davis, if negotiations are possible. It will stay there for a hot minute.
Haney's time is up, Kingly chases his fortune.
For Bernard, the other games will just be “keeping busy” for Ryan. They never bring in the same fabric.
Devin Haney and his father Bill won't be happy to hear Hopkins say that Spence and Tank Davis are the top two most “promotable” matches for Ryan. Because they want a rematch with him. Haney wasn't too happy about last week's loss, which he attributes to his weight.
Fans don't want to see a second Garcia vs. Haney match. You can't sell a second match between these two as much money as the first one. It was too one-sided to sell a rematch.
Why Spence makes sense with Banks
“It's promotable. It's not just the storyline, it's what people want to see,” said promoter Bernard Hopkins. spit bucket podcast Next up is a potential matchup between Ryan Garcia and Errol Spence Jr.
“For me Errol Spence is a threat to everyone and is definitely a good melodrama leading up to the combat action. It gives something to the fight and makes it personal.
“Personally, I would say fight the best fighters in the division to get the most money and understand that you are Kingly and they make money by fighting you.
“If Spence is that guy, even if it's not Tank, even if it's not Spence, whoever after that, I believe we're going to put those two guys at the top of a good chain. I'm into that too. I totally agree, whatever else you have to do to keep yourself busy,” Hopkins said.
