Yemen is a developing boxing country and the war-affected country expended great efforts to participate in the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Last year, several of the country's boxers participated in the Arab Sports Games, ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships, Asian Games, Mohammed VI Cup, and Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament to support their international preparations.
Yemen is close to winning a medal at the 2017 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and their dream is to advance in the upcoming competitions. Although Yemen does not have the best facilities or economic background, Yemeni boxers are emotional and hold national events at least three times a year.
Boxers born in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 will be eligible to compete in the U22 age group in Astana, Kazakhstan. Boxers born in 2006 and 2007 are eligible to participate in the youth generation group of this particular continental event.
Faisal Al Hussaini is Yemen's most experienced coach, having supported boxers from ringside at the last seven major championships. Shaban Al Omairi assisted him in training sessions and with their help selected three youth boxers to compete in the Astana Games. Ali Al Fadli, Shaban Al Qadani and Mohammed Al Waheedi were all born in 2006 and are in their second year in the youth ranks. All three boxers are Yemeni national champions and had an intense sparring session during their preparation.
