Gable Stevenson's unsuccessful WWE tenure has come to an end.
The Olympic wrestling gold medalist was among those cut by the company on Friday, the Post confirmed.
The news was first reported by the Observer.
According to multiple reports, WWE is making at least 10 more cuts to its NXT and developmental rosters, with Drew Gulak being the most notable.
Stevenson, 23, officially signed with WWE in 2021, but was linked to and coveted by WWE long before he won heavyweight gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
His arrival was hyped by WWE.
Shortly after signing, he was “drafted” to “Monday Night Raw” before playing any official games.
Steveson defeated Baron Corbin at the NXT Great American Bash in July 2023, but only one match was televised, and the match was not well-received by fans.
His last appearance on NXT television was in an Underground match in June, in the corner of his older brother Bobby, who wrestles under the name Jordan Kemp.
Steveson appeared in 16 non-television matches, his last appearance on SmackDown on February 9th against Cedric Alexander.
According to the Observer, he happened to be too slow to qualify for this summer's Paris Olympics.
The U.S. Olympic Trials were held April 19-20 at Penn State University.
WWE traditionally makes cuts after WrestleMania, which was held at Lincoln Financial Field on April 7th and 8th.
In 2022, there were reports that WWE was not happy with Stevenson's training progress, but later that year, Stevenson was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart defect (Wolf-Parkinson-White Syndrome) and was unable to receive treatment. He revealed that he underwent surgery for this reason. And.
In 2019, before signing with WWE, Stevenson and fellow University of Minnesota wrestler Dylan Martinez were arrested on sexual assault charges.
Both men were not charged due to “insufficient evidence.”
“One of the challenges for me personally, especially over the past few months/years, has been reading criticisms and attacks on my character by people who don't know me personally or my values.” said in a statement to Ringside News in 2021.
“No charges have been filed by anyone, and this entire episode has been difficult for everyone involved… Going forward, those who don't know me will also know that kindness, respect, and empathy are things I take very seriously in life.” I hope they understand that it is a virtue to be.”
