The belief in Robert Meriwether is strong, with the 19-year-old prospect being labeled as a future star.
Merriweather will take on undefeated Victor Manuel Lopez Gala on Wednesday, May 8th, as part of Wednesday Night Fights, live on the Probox TV app from the Probox TV Event Center in Plant City, Florida. I want to continue striving for greatness.
Merriweather (5-0, 2 KOs) made it clear that he wants to live up to the high expectations many have for his career.
“I'm grateful to be recognized so highly, but I know I deserve it,” Meriwether said. “I just keep working and making sure those labels become a reality. I have special attributes. I have speed, I have power, I'm a great boxer, but the You can defeat your opponent if you want.”
Like many fighters, Meriwether was trained by his namesake father, Robert Meriwether II. Meriwether explained what drives him, detailing what leads to his growth. The X-factor is the unconditional love he feels from his father.
“We have a father-son relationship, but we also have a coach-fighter relationship,” Merriweather explained. “The love he had for me outside of boxing added fuel to our fire.”
Merriweather doesn't know much about Wednesday's opponent other than that he's dangerous and undefeated, so he's determined to be the best version of himself. Lopez (5-0, 3 KOs) has the same record as Merriweather with one KO left.
“I just know he's tall,” Meriwether said.
After completing camp in Las Vegas, Nevada, the prospect headed to Florida for final preparations. Merriweather believes he has emerged as one of the new faces of professional boxing and it all starts on May 8th.
“I'm more than just a fighter, I'm a fighter,” Meriwether insisted.
