Promoter Sampson Lukovic has renewed lightweight title contender Edwin “La Granada” de los Santos (16-2, 14 KOs) to a long-term promotional contract.
De Los Santos, 24, is a hard-punching southpaw from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, who has spent most of his career with Lukovic's Sampson Boxing. He lost a controversial decision to Shakur Stevenson for the WBC lightweight title last November.
At the time of signing the contract, De Los Santos said, “I am happy to re-sign with promoter Sampson.'' “He has done everything he has said for my career and we have grown like a family. I am looking forward to another world title fight soon. I hope it’s a match this time.”
Humberto “Cello” Betancourt, de los Santos' trainer and current manager, says he is happy to keep the team on track for another appearance at the world championships.
“I've worked with Sampson for over 20 years and he has always kept his promises,” Betancourt said. “Edwin is an excellent fighter who works hard in the gym and will soon become world lightweight champion.”
“Edwin de los Santos is a great talent and a good person,” Lewkowicz said. “He has never turned down any fight I have offered him and has the talent to be an overwhelming champion. I look forward to many more big matches and great achievements in my career.”
