Trekan Sabirkan successfully defended his men's 67kg title at the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Astana yesterday, becoming the first athlete from the host country to win four gold medals at junior and youth level.
Standing between him and history was Muhammada Zizbek Ismoilov of Uzbekistan, who turned out to be the most formidable enemy yet. However, Sabirkan's strong performance in the second round greatly contributed to his decision.
His victory was the highlight of a great day of competitions for hosts Kazakhstan, who took home 11 gold medals. The first of these was won by Ayajan Siddique in the women's 54kg category against India's Tamannaah. She was officially joined at the top of the podium by Ayajan Yermek in the women's 57kg final and Asian Junior Champion Tolganai Kasimkhan, who defeated defending champion Nikita Chand of India in the women's 60kg final. It was a strong start to the final for India, who won three titles in the first four matches. Uzbekistan's seven gold medals are divided into lightweight and heavyweight divisions, with lightweight boxer Sobiljon Tastanov defeating Kyrgyzstan's Amantur Jumaev in the men's 54kg category and Jasmine Tokirova of Chinese Taipei in the women's 48kg category. Nodirbek Araberganov defeated Jordan's Kais in the men's 57kg category in Yang Ying Qi. Eshish and Odinakhon Ismoilova vs. India's Shushti Sachin Sathe.
Later, Akmarjon Isroylov defeated Kazakhstan's Imangali Nurpeis in the men's 86kg final, and Halimjon Mamasoliyev defeated India's Aryan in the men's 92kg final.
Rounding out the Uzbekistan squad was Sobirahon Shahobidinova, who defeated Panar Seythankuji in the women's 80+ kg category and moved up from junior to win her third consecutive Asian Games title.
In the women's 70kg final, Alimir Abdoulaim defeated Kazakhstan's Mariya Sidorenko, giving China the gold medal, while Iran won the men's 92kg final with Amir Esmaili defeating Uzbek boxer Shakhzod Polvnov.・Thanks to Vandaey, we will win the only gold medal of the day.
