After two days of thrilling competition, a total of 70 teams qualified for the relay competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics. World Athletics Relay Bahamas 24 (May 4th-5th)
Fourteen teams in each of the five events being contested in Nassau (women's 4x100m, men's 4x400m and mixed 4x400m) automatically qualified for Paris. The first 40 teams to qualify were confirmed on Saturday, and the final 30 on Sunday, following a second Olympic qualification round for teams that missed the first day.
Teams that qualified on Saturday also secured a spot in Sunday's World Relay Final, where they will compete for prize money and Olympic lane seeding.
The USA won four of the five finals in Nassau, setting a winning record in the women's 4x100m with a time of 41.85 seconds, and the mixed 4x400m team did the same with a time of 3:10.73. achieved a record. Botswana's men's 4x400m race ended on a high note as they maintained their world lead with a time of 2:59.11, winning the final race of the weekend.
Two countries, Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the United States, each qualified with five teams to attend Paris, while six countries, France, Germany, Italy, Jamaica, Nigeria and Poland, each qualified with four teams.
Most of the spots in Paris are now secured, but teams that missed out in Nassau still have spots left. Two additional Olympic berths will be awarded in each discipline based on the top list during the qualification period (December 31, 2022 to June 30, 2024).
