Tom Aspinall has dismissed public interest in UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones over a potential fight with Alex Pereira.
Jones (27-1 MMA, 21-1 UFC) calls his fight with light heavyweight champion Pereira (10-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) the biggest fight in MMA history, and why he chose to fight Pereira. He continued, wondering if this was a much more profitable match. Interim heavyweight champion Aspinall. Jones' return fight will not be a title unification bout against Aspinall, but rather a matchup with Stipe Miocic.
Aspinall (14-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) doesn't think he needs to mention Jones unless he intends to fight him, which he thinks is highly unlikely at this point. .
“If I can get my old buddy John to sign me and put my name on the other side of the contract, I'm going to spend hours on this show talking about him,” Aspinall told TNT Sports. ” he said. “But now this guy is playing the game again and he's trying to convince the public of what he wants and what he doesn't want.
“He's really, really good at it. Like I said, if John ever signs a contract in my name, we can always discuss it. Because at this point, to be honest, that's not very likely.”
Aspinall is expected to defend his interim title at UFC 304 in Manchester on July 27, but his opponent is not yet known.
“Last I knew, it was going to be announced this weekend (at UFC 301), but obviously that's gone,” Aspinall said. “I don't know. I don't know what's going on right now. I wish I could be on the show, I wish I could announce it on social media, I wish I could attract traffic that way. But right now, I don't know. I'm just preparing for the day. I don't know what's going on right now as far as opponents and things like that.”
