PFL welterweight Cedric Doumbe takes on Conor McGregor in a fantasy matchup.
Doumbu is one of the main figures in the emerging European MMA scene, attracting a large audience and following in his native France. When Cedric Doumbe made his PFL debut last October against Jordan Zebo and delivered an electric strike to a rowdy crowd while holding a mattress that read “Goodnight Jordan,” he sent a huge message to the mixed martial arts world. It was sent. He knocked out Zebo in just nine seconds.
Although his recent match against Baisangur Chamsuddinov didn't go his way, Doumbe attracted another large crowd that featured notable sports stars such as Tony Parker and several PSG players. The event reportedly sold out within 20 minutes.
Cedric Doumbe vows to finish off Conor McGregor in fantasy fight
The kind of attention Doumbe receives at home could only rival that of McGregor upon his return, especially when he headlined against Diego Brand at The Three Arena in 2014. Doumbe spoke about the comparison in an interview with Bloody Elbow, and while he was flattering, he said he believes the pair should make a match. If he took part in every match of the all-European showdown, he would be the one to come out on top.
“I’m the face of MMA in France, just like Conor was in Ireland, so it makes sense to make the comparison,” Doumbe said in an interview with Bloody Elbow.
“But if I fought Conor, I think I would knock him out in the first round because he is a good fighter. When you fight good fighters, you knock them out.”
Doumbe will return to the cage tomorrow night when he faces Jahlil Willis in the co-main event of Bellator's Champion Series at the Accor Arena in Paris, France.
Willis, a former LFA champion, has a 4-3 record on the Bellator platform and will be a good test for Doumbe, who hopes to return to the track within two months of his last appearance.
