In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, musicians, writers and composers (guns and roses, velvet revolver) and mental health advocates Duff McKagan combine Dr. Mark Brackett In a new episode of “Face your emotions”.pairs discuss duffchildhood, abstinence, martial arts, and duff's mission is to inspire others.
duff He recalls how his martial arts training helped him stay sober and change his perspective on mental health and personal growth. Marc and duff Drawing on our shared experience with martial arts, we discuss emotional regulation techniques that we have learned throughout our lives.
duff takes Marc Through his mental health journey, he details how alcohol and drugs were used to self-medicate for panic attacks, and how he coped with it after getting sober.he speaks with Marc About his childhood and the “emotional climate” of his home as he grew up.
duff “My childhood was turbulent, a big family, the last of eight children, my parents went through a bad divorce, an affair, and I witnessed it. I came home from second grade and went to bed. You saw the affair and your mom was at work and your dad was retired and you had to keep it a secret because you didn't want to break up your mom? “Maybe that's why I had a panic attack later.” . ” Maybe, who knows, you can say a lot of awful things like what I just said, but haven’t we all experienced some version of it? ”
duff It also details how, growing up, he didn't have much of a chance to talk to anyone about his feelings, but once he found his base, things changed.
He says: “If you ask [GUNS N’ ROSES guitarist] slash Play a guitar solo. Every night will be different. He's a guy who doesn't talk much, he's never talked, I've known him for 40 years. But hey, when he plays there, yeah. He's talking to you, he's talking to everyone. ”
As a husband, parent, and artist, duff He talks about his own emotions and those of his loved ones in the context of his family.When talking about the atmosphere of the band duff “Being in a band is like being in a big family…When you know that everyone wants the best for the song, no one can hear your part like, 'That sucks. That sucks. What are you doing? I don't try to blame her. 'No one thinks like that. No one wants to perform their best songs on stage, and I think understanding these things about your bandmates can take your band to a place like that. ”
