Dominic Parrish, who discovered wrestling in his hometown of Scotts Valley, will represent Team USA at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Parrish, 27, qualified for the U.S. team in the women's wrestling 53kg division on April 20.
At the 2024 Olympic Trials held at Penn State University, Parrish defeated 2016 Summer Olympian Haley Augello, 29, of Lockport, Illinois, avoiding takedowns and winning both matches. I won.
“I feel really, really good,” Parrish said. “This is what I've been working on for a long time.”
Her sister and boyfriend were there to watch her qualify.
Last November, hoping for a change, she switched her training to Oregon, where she practiced with two-time U.S. national team member Nate Engel. As for Engel, “she's always wrestling,” she said.
One of my inspirations is Helen Maroulis, who won a gold medal in wrestling at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Like Parrish, Maroulis is also a graduate of Simon Fraser University.
The Paris Olympics will open on Friday, July 26th and end on Sunday, August 11th.
Parrish participated in the Toyoko Olympics as a member of the training team, but this will be his first chance to participate in the Olympics.
She has had an illustrious career, including a gold medal at the 2022 Senior World Championships, a gold medal at the Pan American Championships, and a win at the U.S. Open.
As a student at Scotts Valley High School, where her father, Mike Parrish, coached her, she was a two-time California high school state champion.
At Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada, she was a two-time Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association national champion and four-time All-American.
And it all started when she was enrolled in a wrestling demonstration when she was in the 6th grade.
Next, her photo could be featured on a poster.
