Ian Machado Gary says one thing and Colby Covington says another.
There seem to be contrasting stories about a potential match between the two welterweights. In recent weeks, Gary (14-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) has claimed that he has a contract offer for the fight and will sign Covington (17-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) to a contract. I urged you to do so. Grudge match official.
But that's not the case, at least according to Covington.
“We all know he's an asshole, but now we know he's a liar,” Covington told the podcast “The Rush.” “UFC, Hunter (Campbell), Dana (White), they haven't told me anything about this fight. This fight hasn't been introduced. He's just lying and using clickbait to make people think of himself. I'm trying to get people talking about it.”
Covington has not yet booked a fight, but said he is ready to wait for an offer from the UFC. The longtime welterweight challenger has moved on since losing a unanimous decision to champion Leon Edwards in December.
He would be interested in Garry's fight, but is worried that Garry won't show up for the fight. That's why he insists that three conditions must be met to show that he is serious about fighting.
“I don't know who I'm fighting,” Covington said. “I gave him conditions. I said, 'If you want to fight me and you're serious about business, show me you're serious. When I show up, it's because I'm trying to do good business and I want to make money.”
“The reason he didn't show up at the last press conference was because he knew I was going to use a live microphone. What will happen if he has to go and fight me? He probably won't show up. I gave him conditions. If he wants to fight me and show he's serious about business. , please turn on comments.
