preview:
The Huskies entered the 2023-24 season as the favorite to win the CCHA preseason, but struggled in the beginning and then experienced a hot second half. Tech defeated Bowling Green and Minnesota State en route to the CCHA tournament finals, clinching the championship with a 2-1 win over Bemidji State.
On offense, freshman Isaac Gordon leads the team with 36 points in 39 games, followed by senior Ryland Mosley with 33 points in 39 games. Graduate student Blake Pietila, a 2023 Mike Richter Award finalist, is strong in net, with a .920 save percentage and 2.28 GAA.
The Tech defense was key to the midseason turnaround. A young team at the beginning of the year caused some growing pains, but once established, the Huskies began racking up wins. As they have throughout the CCHA tournament, they will rely on their defense Friday as well — the last three games were all one-goal wins with an emphasis on defense.
The Eagles will need to overcome the Tech defense and Pietila to begin their journey to the Frozen Four. The stakes are much higher, but the Eagles have shown they can handle it.
Now, let's roll the eag!
