Former two-time amateur world champion and #15 WBA middleweight, Cuba's Yoenriz Hernandez (3-0, 3 KOs) is currently training with undisputed super middleweight world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Both players are currently preparing for their upcoming matches. Hernandez will fight TBA in a 10-round bout on June 7th at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Promoter Chris Lawrence believes a middleweight title by Hernandez will happen sooner rather than later. “I know he can beat anyone at 160 right now if given the opportunity,” Lawrence said. “I hope he can fight for a world title by the end of the year. He's ready to fight anyone who holds the belt right now.”
How did training camp go with Canelo?
Camp is going really well. Both Canelo and his trainer Eddie Reynoso are happy with my work and my performance in sparring.
How does doing this type of work at the highest level affect your confidence?
In fact, I went into camp with a lot of confidence because I have a history of competing against the best amateurs from around the world.
When is the next fight?
I will be competing in a 10 round match on June 7th and my opponent will be announced soon. There will probably be at least two regional titles contested by the major sanctioning bodies.
How far do you think you can challenge for the world title?
Honestly, I think it's only a few fights at most. I'm going to fight top contenders and world champions at 160.
What is your ultimate goal?
I want to be recognized as the best in the world in the middleweight division and become the unified world champion in that division.
