Former World Youth Champions Ankshita Boro (60kg) and Nishant Dev (71kg) won the second bout of the World Olympic Boxing Qualifiers on Wednesday to progress to the quarterfinals. National champion Arundhati Choudhury (66kg) also won a convincing victory to progress to the quarterfinals. Boro faced off against Asian champion Rima Vorosenko of Kazakhstan. However, the Indian was not bothered by her opponent's size and started throwing punches from the first round, never struggling throughout the bout and winning by a 4-1 decision.
World Championship bronze medallist Nishant defeated Thailand's Peerapat Yesunnoon 5-0 to reach the quarterfinals.
On the same day, Choudhury began her 66kg campaign with a bout against Stephanie Pieneiro of Puerto Rico.
She was a little more conservative in the second round but dominated the next round, solidifying her position before winning a unanimous 5-0 victory.
Narender Berwal (92kg) also fought well against Ecuador's Jerlon Gilmar Kongo Chala but was unable to progress to the next round.
The 2022 Asian Games bronze medallist started slowly in the first round and then had to play catch-up, but performed well in the second and third rounds of the round of 32 bouts, impressing three of the five judges with his punches.
But his efforts were not enough to overturn the overall deficit.
On Thursday, Sachin Siwaci (57kg) will face Turkey's Batuhan Civcu in an attempt to qualify for the quarterfinals.
2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallists Amit Panghal (51kg), Sanjeet (92kg) and Jaismin (women's 57kg) will begin their campaigns with walkovers in the opening matches. PTI ATK UNG
