Late last month in Dublin, Calif., the Woodlands Soccer Club 2011 Boys Orange team won the NorCal State Cup for the second consecutive year.
The 2011 men's team won the cup on February 25, defeating 1974 Newark FC 11B by a score of 2-0. Oliver Delgado scored both goals, one of which came from a penalty kick.
“The whole team played with intensity and full effort for most of the game,” coach Carlos Torres said. “They started well but at the end of the first half the opposition gained momentum. In the second half the players responded very well and regained control of the game. Oliver had a great game scoring both goals. However, none of this would have been possible without the great assists and passes from his teammates.
They moved the ball well and created a lot of open space while playing solid defense. Our keeper Gio also played well overall and made two great saves!”
Carlos said winning the State Cup once is no easy feat, much less winning it in consecutive seasons.
“We all can’t wait to see what these boys continue to achieve in their football careers and their time here at Woodlands Soccer Club,” he said.
Team members include Logan W., Damian M., Yahir R., Jairo T., Maximo L., Xavi J, Isaac M., Damian R., Julian O., Dhruva P., Oliver D., Jonathan M., Giovanni. Contains O. , Aaron P. and Danny M., coaches Torres and Saul Mejia.
