rio grande valley – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s soccer team announced the addition of a goalie on Wednesday. Camila Aguilarmidfielder Rubi Ortizforward olivia trotterand defender Addison Severen For the 2024-2025 academic season.
“We are pleased to add four more top-class signings to our 2024 signing class,” UTRGV Head Coach mark foster Said. “As a staff, we have worked hard to find the right players to strengthen our ever-growing team. Aguilar, who is in his senior season at Hutt High School, earned first-team all-district honors as a goalie in 2023. Aguilar plays club soccer with his soccer club, the Austin Sting.
“I loved the size of the campus, the academic options, and all the excitement and growth that comes with the school's athletic program,” Aguilar said. “Everyone I met made me feel welcome and looked forward to the future. I was able to stay in Texas.”
Ortiz is in his senior season at Bay City High School, where he helped his team win a district championship. Ortiz won District Newcomer of the Year in 2021, three-time All-District First Team honoree (2021, 2022, 2023), two-time District MVP (2022 and 2023), and All-State honoree in 2023. He won the first team award.
“UTRGV has a great environment, great people and a beautiful campus,” Ortiz said. “I can see myself training on the pitch and learning in the classroom. I also know that the coaching staff will help me become a better player and person. .I can’t wait to see what UTRGV has in store for me!”
Trotter comes to UTRGV after spending two seasons at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Over his two seasons in Green Bay, Trotter appeared in 15 games, starting two of them.
Before joining Green Bay, Trotter attended Lake Dallas High School, where he was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2019, received honorable mention in 2020 and 2021, and earned academic honors in 2020 and 2021. Trotter contributed to the team's improvement. He won a district championship in 2020 and was a district finalist in 2021.
“I chose UTRGV because I believe in what the coaches are building for the program,” Trotter said. “I thoroughly enjoyed both the school and team environment. UTRGV welcomed me to my new home!”
Sebren is in his senior season at Peninsula High School in Washington. Seven was named to his All-League team in 2023. Sebren plays club soccer for his Premier FC in Washington.
“One of the main reasons I chose UTRGV is because the university offers tremendous academic and athletic support,” Seblen said. “I also speak very highly of our great coaching staff. We have the same morale and they put a lot of effort into the program. They always create a good team environment and give us a competitive edge.” After speaking with some of the team, it was immediately clear to me that they really enjoy the football program and the school.”
Aguilar, Ortiz, Trotter and Sebren join Arndis Eggertsdottir, Aly Sifuentes, Kristin Moore and Jordan Matthews as part of this year's sign language class.
