Stephen Curry has a lot of charm. The Golden State Warriors superstar is a future first-ballot Hall of Famer, the best shooter in NBA history, and an international icon beloved by millions in the Bay Area and beyond. And maybe he will become a politician in the future? Curry has continued to perform at the highest level for the Warriors this season, and while there are probably still quite a few years left before he retires, he's already looking ahead to life after basketball.
While appearing on CBS Mornings to promote his second children's book, I am extraordinary, On the show, which aims to encourage children to embrace their individuality, Curry is encouraged by CBS News national correspondent Jerrica Duncan to consider a career in politics, especially running for president, once his playing days are over. I was asked if I had ever thought about it.
“I'm probably interested in leveraging every part of my influence for the best that I can,” Curry said. “So, if that's the way it's done, and I'm not talking about the presidency, but is politics the means to create meaningful change, or is there another way other than politics?”
Even after the Warriors moved beyond the Bay Area to San Francisco, Curry remains deeply involved in the Oakland community. It's through his and his wife Ayesha Curry's charity Eat. learn. Play. supports children in the Oakland Public School District. Or working with his wife as representatives for his No Kid Hungry, which aims to ensure children in Oakland have access to school lunches and can eat three meals a day. Elsewhere, Curry has long been outspoken about racial injustice and violence against Black people in America, and participated in protests at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020.
Throughout her career, Curry has strived to be involved in her community and use her platform to give back and speak out on issues that are important to her. And while he hasn't necessarily said a presidential run is in his future, he may even consider running for local government office.
