After getting in shape most of last season and learning from veteran receivers like Troy Franklin, Oregon redshirt freshman receiver Jurion Dickey may be ready for the spotlight after a strong offseason.
Dickey, a former five-star recruit and the crown jewel of Oregon's 2023 freshman class, committed to Oregon State in the fall while recovering from a torn meniscus suffered during his senior season at Menlo-Atherton High School in California. It's here.
While Dickey recovered and improved, he was able to watch Franklin, another former Menlo-Atherton standout, break nearly every Oregon State receiving record last year.
Now it's Dickey's turn, at least according to offensive coordinator Will Stein.
“He wasn't ready,” Stein said. “He's a phenomenal player. He's ready to go. But it takes time. Once the players are able to submit to the process and understand that it's not going to happen overnight, they can take a deep breath and realize that they're in a great place. I want them to feel like they're in the best place possible.''If I play college football in this country and believe that I can grow and develop, then when the time comes, they'll be ready to play.'' Yes, there is no doubt. ”
At a respectable 6-foot-2 and weighing 215 pounds as a true freshman last year, Dickey has the unique size and strength to contribute early and often in a crowded receiving room.
According to Stein, when Dickie turned a corner during his bowl preparation, he was finally able to reach 100% health, go through a walkthrough, and install a period with the knowledge he needed to run at full speed. He said that it has become like this.
“He lines up like that, runs his routes, and now he looks like the player we all expected him to look like,” Stein said. “And he's in great shape and healthy. I love that kid. He worked his tail off to get in good shape to go out and produce for us. To Jurion There are limits.”
After two practices: spring ball, offseason workouts and conditioning, Stein was impressed that Dickey was now fully healthy. With a loaded receiver room featuring rookies like Tez Johnson, Trayshon Holden, Gary Bryant Jr. and Evan Stewart, a transfer from Texas A&M, former five-star Dickey will be on hand when fall camp begins. Don't take it lightly.
“Once the ball's in the air, go make a play,” Stein said of Dickey's next steps. “We expect him to go catch the ball. It shouldn't be 50-50 for him. He should go up and make plays. That's what he's showing. ”
