PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — Hundreds of youth hockey players will compete in the TCS Hockey Sunshine Cup this weekend in Palm Beach County.
With hearts pounding and adrenaline pumping, players ranging in age from 6 to 18 take to the ice for the highly anticipated annual tournament.
“It's great. I competed in this tournament last year and came in third, so hopefully I can win this year,” said 9-year-old Logan Legault.
The young player is building on last year's defeat and is aiming to take himself and his teammates to the big trophy this year.
His team started well, beating their first opponents 5-0.
“We were dominant yesterday and our goals were good at the end,” Logan said. “I expect every team to put up a great challenge.”
The TCS Hockey Sunshine Cup is one of the largest youth hockey tournaments in the country.
Hundreds of kids of all ages will be coming to Palm Beach County to compete for the title.
Taking to the ice later in the day was Team Fear Hockey Club 16u AA, who had several strong showings throughout the tournament and now had their sights set on winning the championship.
“I'm looking forward to putting the puck in the net, making good passes, finding lanes, getting some good hits and getting the guys going,” said Kahn Lauren, one of the team's many stars.
Lauren is a 16-year-old West Palm Beach resident and defenseman for Team Fear.
Although he has only been skating for three years, he is already considered one of the best skaters in the state.
“I'm planning on moving to Boston next year to play in AAA for the '95 Giants,” Lauren said. “I just want to study and bond with my friends before I go to Boston.”
