It seems unlikely at this point that Draymond Green will ever join forces on the court with NBA superstar and good friend LeBron James.
The Warriors forward appeared on “The Point Game” podcast with former NBA guard John Wall and co-host CJ Toledano and was asked about the possibility of playing alongside James before either of them retires.
“As I said before, Bron [is] “I don't see that happening coming to Golden State,” Green said. “For me personally, if the Warriors hire me and I'm done and I'm there until my shoelaces are tangled and I'm throwing stuff at them about phone wires, I'll be there.”
“There's nothing in the NBA that excites me more than going out there and doing everything I can to win another championship with the team I won four championships with and the guys I won four championships with,” Steph said. [Curry] And Clay [Thompson]I've never looked around the league and thought, “Hmm, I think I could be great.” [over there]. ” Oh, just like that, I can be great here. I can do what I need to do to win another championship and that's my focus.”
There has been speculation for years that Green would leave the Warriors, either as a free agent or in a trade, hoping to one day team up with James. But unless James joins the Warriors, Green isn't going anywhere and plans to finish his career in Golden State.
“I would love to have a chance to play with Bron one day, but I thought I would get a chance with Team USA this summer,” Green said. “That didn't happen to me, so I guess that's probably a closure and a bow on that possibility, because as long as I'm in this franchise, that's where I belong.”
The only scenario Green envisions playing with James was a reality the Warriors tried to make happen before this season's Feb. 8 trade deadline. Golden State tried to acquire James in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers on the eve of the deadline, trying various approaches to acquire the 20-time NBA All-Star but those efforts were unsuccessful.
And if James doesn't exercise his $54.1 million player option for the 2024-25 season this summer, he could try free agency. If so, would the Warriors make a move to sign him?
