Promoter Leonard Ellerbe believes the disrespect David Benavidez showed towards Canelo Alvarez is the reason he failed to get a fight with him.
In Ellerbe's mind, Benavidez and his father, Jose Sr., took the wrong approach of trying to force him to fight superstar Canelo by pressuring and humiliating him into giving him what they wanted. I think it was.
Benavidez is used to getting his way when it comes to fighting whoever he wants. Canelo's choice not to fight has shocked Benavidez, and he doesn't know what to make of it. He exhibits the typical behavior of a spoiled fighter.
Ellerbe said Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs) doesn't care what anyone thinks and wouldn't want to fight him if he was disrespected. Plus, Benavidez needs Canelo, not the other way around.
Benavidez and Jose Sr. have said so much about Canelo at this point that it would be futile to continue their public pressure campaign. They need to move forward and move up in weight, preferably to cruiserweight.
Benavidez could still have a good career at light heavyweight, cruiserweight, or heavyweight if he can fight opponents his size, but he needs to get his obsession with Canelo out of his head once and for all.
Elherbe: Contempt breeds neglect.
“I've read articles where I felt like Canelo was being disrespected.” [by Benavidez].if it's theirs [Team Benavidez] If you approach, disrespect, you don’t get checked,” Leonard Ellerbe told FightHub TV about why he feels David Benavidez couldn’t win the fight with Canelo Alvarez.
“If I say something rude, they won't eat at this table. That won't happen. You have to learn how to be respectful.” No,” Ellerbe said.
Benavidez needs to change his approach heading into the fight with Canelo, but again, it may be too late. Benavidez, the Mexican monster, likely burned bridges with his comments long ago. That's why I need to forget about Canelo and do my best at 175 or 200.
“When you have a fighter of Canelo's level, at the highest level of boxing, you have to find a way to get him in the ring,” Ellerbe said. “I look down on him, but no one is going to put any pressure on him. He doesn't care what you think and I don't blame him.
Does Canelo need Benavidez?
“Here's a guy who's made hundreds of millions of dollars. He's fought everyone. When you look at Benavidez, he needs him, not the other way around. He needs to know how to play the game. Yes,” Ellerbe said.
Canelo's net worth is estimated at $250 million, which could rise to the $400 million range if he continues to fight for another three to five years. He doesn't need Benavidez to make extra money.
