When does the 2024-25 NHL season start?
Ryan Smith and Ashley Smith, co-founders of Smith Entertainment Group, purchased the Arizona Coyotes earlier this month and moved the team to Salt Lake City.
The team, which has not yet decided on a name, will play its first season in Utah this fall. The players and coaches received a warm welcome last week at a celebration attended by thousands of hockey fans at the Delta Center. As of last week, more than 29,000 people had paid a $100 deposit for season tickets. SEG plans to renovate the arena to improve hockey sight lines as part of a downtown revitalization project. Smith plans to hold a bracket-style contest to name the team.
Players are expected to return to training camp in early August, with preseason games scheduled for September. The regular season is scheduled to begin on October 4th, with the Buffalo Sabers and New Jersey Devils facing off in Prague, Czech Republic as part of the 2024 NHL Global Series. The NHL has not yet released a complete schedule for the 2024-25 season.
