Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Mike Young speaks to the media as the Hokies earn a first-round bye in the ACC Tournament this week in Washington, D.C., after Saturday's 82-76 win over Notre Dame at Cassell Coliseum. We met on various topics. The veteran coach said so.
Young talked about the 28-point effort he got from point guard Sean Pedulla.
“He was a really downhill player, he was full throttle with no breaks. He had some chances in transition. He was difficult to handle. He had a great game. I'm proud of Sean. He's a hell of a player. He's a great player. He's a really, really good basketball player and had a really great game this afternoon.”
It was Virginia Tech's senior day and Hunter Kattore's final regular season game in Cassel, where he finished with nine points. Young talked about his five seasons in Blacksburg.
“He embodies what this community stands for, cadets. He does it the right way and is a first-rate human being. He loves Virginia Tech and he loves this fan base. He's a great player and an even better person. It was a real pleasure and an honor to coach him.”
Young talked about Robbie Beran doing the little things to help Tech beat the Irish.
“I said in the locker room that he wasn't having his best game offensively. It doesn't show what you're doing to help the team win.'' He rebounded the basketball well. ”
Young talked about the upcoming ACC Tournament in Washington.
“We've been doing it all this time. We lost the last night of the regular season and won the tournament. This is a new world and our only focus is to win one game. Win one game. There's a lot that goes into tournament play, and it's important to get the right amount of rest to prepare for it.”
The 2023-24 regular season is now over, and the best time of year for college basketball fans is upon us: tournament time.
