The grills are out, the sparklers are dead, the sky is no longer pulsating with vibrant light, and after celebrating America's birth, it's time to watch Canada do what the U.S. never could: play in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Copa America tournament.
The first quarterfinal match has now concluded and these two teams will battle it out for a place in the semifinals.
Venezuela reached this point by winning all three group stage matches by a combined score of 6-1. They struggled against Ecuador in their opening match of the tournament, but a red card in the 22nd minute helped Venezuela to pull off a 2-1 victory.
Canada had no such luxury, only getting there thanks to 0-0 draws with Chile and Peru. Canada scored just one goal in the entire group, which was enough to get them through to the knockout stage.
