NEW YORK (KXAN) — Wednesday officially marks 100 days until the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
100 days may seem like a long time, but it's incredible how close we are to Paris 2024 for athletes, coaches and families.
We have had the opportunity to interact with dozens of Olympians and Olympic hopefuls and are very excited to see what's to come.
Amid flashing lights and endless questions, all eyes are on the sport's biggest stars ahead of Paris 2024.
That includes Austin's own track and field standout, 2020 Tokyo Olympian Gabby Thomas.
“The other day I logged 150 days of training for the Paris Olympics,” Thomas said.
When asked by Washington what kind of food he eats during training, Thomas replied, “It's pretty much the same as I normally eat.”
Other Texas athletes include UT Austin graduate Tara Davis Woodhall of USA Track and Field;
“The trials are a little different this year. I'm going there intending to make that team,” Davis Woodhall said.
Geoffro, a B-boy from Houston, will be competing in the Olympics for the first time this summer, marking the first time that breakdancing will be included as an athletic event.
There will be a week of panel discussions, roundtables and one-on-one interviews with celebrities including Olympic gymnastics champion Suni Lee. Other athletes include Morrell McCain, who competes in USA Boxing, and B-girl breakdancer Sunny Choi.
What will happen between now and Paris is that many sports will have qualifying events and Olympic Trials.
Washington will cover the trial in Minnesota in June.
Every Saturday morning, Washington and meteorologist Rich Segal will host an Olympic livestream featuring the week's big headlines, behind-the-scenes fun, moments with Olympians, and more.
