UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has confirmed he will fight on an upcoming PPV card in the UK later this summer.
Even though Jon Jones currently reigns as the UFC's undisputed heavyweight titleholder, a strong argument could be made that Aspinall is the best big man in the world. The Briton won the interim title last November, stopping then-ranked number one Sergei Pavlovich with a brutal punch that lasted just over a minute.
With the division currently stagnant due to Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic's contract cancellations and subsequent lack of rebooking, Tom Aspinall will have to wait a long time before getting his undisputed shot. Dew. Unless, of course, he enters a fight in the meantime to defend his interim title.
Tom Aspinall confirms return fight at UFC 304
Since his win over Pavlovic, Aspinall has been adamant that he wants to stay busy, and in his latest post on social media he announced that his wish has come true. Aspinall also confirmed that the UFC will return to the UK and fights will take place in his home country.
Tom Aspinall said: “I have met with the UFC and it has been confirmed that I will be fighting at UFC Manchester, so I am now returning home to prepare for that and starting the early stages of training camp.''
“We are just waiting for the other party to accept it, so we will announce it soon, so please look forward to it.”
Aspinall's likely opponent would be his former enemy Curtis Blaydes. The two faced off in July 2022, but unfortunately Aspinall suffered a torn ACL and the fight ended after just 15 seconds.
A constant competitor, Blaydes scored an impressive victory over rising grappler Jailton Almeida just last month.
