After missing out on Paul George, the Warriors are reportedly exploring a trade for another star player.
Golden State is exploring a potential trade with the Utah Jazz to acquire star forward Lauri Markkanen, ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported on the latest episode of his podcast, “Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective.”
“They're still trying other things,” Windhorst said of the Warriors. “I think Lauri Markkanen from the Jazz is on the trade market. They're definitely exploring that. It remains to be seen whether it works out.”
Windhorst added that the San Antonio Spurs are also among the teams interested in a trade for Markkanen and that the team in talks with Utah believes there is a “high probability” that the Jazz will trade Markkanen.
Markkanen appeared in 55 games for the Jazz during the 2023-24 NBA season, averaging 23.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting an impressive 39.9% from the 3-point line. Many believe the stretch big could be an excellent secondary scoring option for Warriors guard Stephen Curry while also bringing his 7-foot frame to Golden State.
In addition to Markkanen, the Warriors are also reportedly considering trades for Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine and New Orleans Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram.
It remains to be seen who the Warriors will acquire in a trade, but Markkanen may be the best fit for Golden State.
