Will the Warriors make another free agent move?
Golden State is in “serious discussions” to acquire shooter Buddy Hield in a sign-and-trade deal, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported Tuesday night, citing league sources, who noted that the Philadelphia 76ers and Warriors are also in “serious discussions.”
Charania's report came after Warriors icon Klay Thompson was sent to the Dallas Mavericks in a sign-and-trade on Monday and just hours after Golden State added De'Anthony Melton and acquired Kyle Anderson on Tuesday.
It's been a quiet but somewhat productive free agency period for Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy, but the addition of Hield gives Golden State a capable 3-point shooter who can fill the sixth man role.
After being traded to the 76ers for the 2023-24 NBA season, Hield continued to perform well, averaging 38.6% of his 6.8 three-point attempts per game between the Indiana Pacers and Philadelphia. Hield has been a reliable 3-pointer, making 40% of his three-point attempts in 84 regular season games.
The Warriors are reportedly eyeing Utah Jazz star forward Lauri Markkanen after missing out on Paul George, but Hield could be a nice complement to any such trade.
