After LeBron James recently shared his thoughts on the Warriors' 2022 NBA Finals win over the Boston Celtics, Draymond Green said on his podcast that Golden State has a higher basketball IQ. The Los Angeles Lakers star has responded to the claims.
Green discussed the comments on his podcast, The Draymond Green Show, agreeing with the 39-year-old's take on the situation, but saying the Warriors are more ready for the bright lights of the NBA Finals. He elaborated on what he believed.
“That's true to some extent,” Green says. “I think we definitely had higher IQs back then. But we didn't just have higher IQs; [that we had] Your IQ will be high at this time. Sometimes you get into the playoffs, and this is the NBA Finals we're talking about, but sometimes that light is a little brighter than you expected. ”
But in Green's mind, it wasn't just that his players had better situational awareness and IQ, it was also that the coaches on the Warriors' bench made better adjustments throughout the series.
“So I think our basketball IQ was higher, but so was the basketball IQ of our coaching staff at the time. The adjustments we made throughout that series made all the difference,” Green said. said.
In the first episode of the Mind the Gap podcast, James and co-host former NBA player JJ Redick discuss how the Warriors defeated a highly talented Celtics team in six games to win the NBA title. I talked about what I did.
“There are moments in the game that the coaches can't prepare for, the film can't prepare for, the history of the game can't prepare for, and it takes basketball IQ to make adjustments on the fly. You have to have that level of mental structure and ability. “I don’t have one,” James said.
“…When Golden State beat Boston, I think it was a game of IQ in the Finals, because to me Boston had better talent. Boston had better talent. But it was because of IQ. People say experience, or IQ.”
After two disappointing, injury-plagued seasons, the Warriors regain their championship poise and win the NBA title during the 2021-2022 NBA season, making it possible for the team to win a championship after Kevin Durant's departure. This surprised many experts who had doubts.
While the Celtics took a 2-game series lead, the Warriors won their third straight game to close out the NBA Finals with their fourth title in eight seasons.
