The class of 2026 could begin contacting college coaches, and vice versa, as soon as late night on June 15. Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Mike Young is building his roster for the 2024-25 season and has been busy in the transfer portal in recent months.
While Coach Young has also been busy welcoming incoming freshmen for the Class of 2025, the veteran coach and his staff were busy reaching out to third-year students on Saturday. Here is a look at some of the freshmen that Coach Young and his staff have been in contact with.
Corey Corbett, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Columbia, South Carolina, is starting to emerge in the class of 2026 as a four-star recruit according to 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals.com. He has a smooth 3-point shot and told 247Sports in January where he'd like to attend college in the next few years.
“I want to go to UNC,” he said of his dream school. “I love everything about UNC.”
South Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Charlotte, Clemson Some of the other schools These are people who have already contacted him.
Another four-star shooting guard that Young and his coaching staff have been targeting is 6-foot-5, 190-pound Caden Allen. He's the fifth freshman in the class, according to On3, and the Lawrenceville, Georgia native is turning heads at Montverde Academy.
ACC schools Louisville, Georgia Tech, Miami I kept in contact with him too. They will face SEC powerhouses Tennessee and Auburn.
Gabe Slarski, a four-star wing out of Illinois, is a highly-touted 3-point shooter, and at 6-foot-6, Slarski is able to provide excellent support for his teammates while also being able to shoot the ball himself, which would make him a great fit for the Hokies' offensive line.
Slarski has heard from Notre Dame, Louisville and Stanford from the ACC, along with Michigan State, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Oklahoma. Other schools looking to acquire talented wingers.
While the 2026 recruiting class is still in the very early stages and many more teams will be involved in acquiring these and other players that Young and the Hokies would be interested in, the 2026 class is finally underway in terms of recruiting.
