Virginia Tech star guard Georgia Amoore has entered the transfer portal, it was confirmed Monday. Amoor has been marked “no contact,” meaning he does not wish to be contacted by his coach. That means there's a good chance Amoor already knows where he wants to go, or there are several finalists. Amoore's decision follows the departure of former Hokies women's basketball coach Kenny Brooks to take the head coaching job at Kentucky.
Amoore started 124 of 126 games during his four-year tenure at Virginia Tech. This season, she averaged 18.8 points, 6.8 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 0.9 steals on 41.2 percent shooting, leading the Hokies in assists and steals. Her points, assists and field goal percentage were all career highs.
Amoor has career averages of 14.7 points, 5.2 assists and 2.6 rebounds.
The Victoria, Australia native had a storied career at Virginia Tech and was originally named to the ACC All-Freshman Team following the 2020-21 season. She continued to accumulate accolades from there. That includes being named AP All-American, two-time All-ACC, two-time All-ACC Tournament, and her 2023 ACC Tournament MVP.
The Hokies lost to Baylor in the second round of the NCAA Tournament this season.
What this means for Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech's hits continue. The Hokies lost coach Brooks to Kentucky after Elizabeth Kitley's ACL tear ended their quest for a Final Four berth too soon. With Amoore's transfer and Kayla King's graduation, Virginia Tech loses its entire core of players who reached the national semifinals in 2023.

Will Amoore follow Brooks to Kentucky?
Amoor was supposed to be a first-round pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, but was given an additional year of eligibility due to a one-time exception due to COVID-19. She has nothing left to prove at her college level.
But perhaps by joining Brooks, she will help the new head coach implement the system at Kentucky. Brooks runs a unique offense that relies heavily on the point guard to direct the actions, and the adjustment process at a new school will be greatly aided by Amoore's presence.
Amoore will be a valuable asset to any program looking for a lead guard due to his elite playmaking and shot creation. With the Wildcats, she essentially becomes the floor coach because of her knowledge of the system. — merchant

What this means for Amoore's 2025 draft pick
The 2025 WNBA Draft should have a little more depth than the 2024 draft as the COVID-19 exemption period ends, and Amoore is tempting fate with his draft stock. In more physical meetings, Amoor might not be as impressive without Kitley as a security blanket.
But if she plays well in the SEC, Amoore will answer a lot of questions about her ability to match up against WNBA defenses. — merchant
