It's a question on many people's minds in the college football world: How good will the Virginia Tech Hokies be in 2024? Many believe the return of a strong, competitive Virginia Tech football program would be a good thing for the football world.
There's a lot that's good about the Hokies. Tech returns 20 starters in 2024, which is remarkable in the current state of the game. In the era of the transfer portal and NILs, it's hard for any program to retain top talent. Basically, other schools can keep players from your team. It's illegal but it does happen, and you can't prove it. But Virginia Tech and head coach Brent Pry weathered the storm and kept all the players they wanted to keep.
Multiple publications have the Hokies in their top 25 rankings heading into the 2024 season, with Phil Steele ranking Virginia Tech 17th.
USA TODAY Sports released its power rankings after the spring league ended and ranked the Hokies 20th.
This is similar to what others have said about Virginia Tech. Having a dynamic quarterback is an advantage, but the Hokies have Kyron Draughns. Not only will Draughns return, but running back Beischl Teuthen and Virginia Tech's top three receivers will also return. The defense returns mostly intact except for defensive tackle and linebacker Mike, and I think the Hokies will be even better in 2024.
What do you think, Hokies? Should Virginia Tech be in the top 25? Or are the Hokies getting too much preseason attention?
