Two Virginia Tech greats who are currently playing in the NFL will be inducted into the Virginia Tech Athletic Hall of Fame.
Virginia Tech announced Monday that quarterback Tyrod Taylor and offensive tackle Duane Brown are two of eight players who will be inducted into the school's Hall of Fame.
Taylor, who joined the Hokies as an elite prospect in 2007 out of Hampton, played four years with the team and became the starting quarterback as a sophomore. Virginia Tech won two ACC championships with Taylor under center. Taylor passed for 7,017 yards, 44 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. Taylor also rushed for 2,196 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Taylor was a fifth-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens in 2011 and currently plays for the New York Jets. Taylor is considered one of the best backup quarterbacks in the NFL, having played in 92 games, starting 58 of them. He holds the winningest record as an NFL starting quarterback.
A native of Richmond, Brown enrolled at Virginia Tech as a tight end in 2003, but switched to the offensive line in 2005 and was a starter at right tackle for two seasons, earning All-ACC honors, before switching to left tackle in 2007 and being named All-ACC again.

Brown was a first-round draft pick, first-team All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowl selection during 10 seasons with the Houston Texans before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks in 2017 and playing for the team through the 2021 season.
He spent the past two seasons with the New York Jets.
Both Taylor and Brown were outstanding Hokies players and were very deserving of this honor.
The six other inductees who are deserving of this honor are:
- Jeff Artis Gray: Five-time All-American in track and field
- Larsen Bowker, former men's and women's tennis coach
- Dave Cianelli: 20-time ACC Coach of the Year for track and field.
- Brittany Pryor: Six-time All-American in women's track and field
- Heather Savage: Two-time All-American in swimming and diving
- Logan Shinholser: Four-time All-American in swimming and diving
Congratulations to all eight former Hokie greats.
