With just over two months until the 2024 college football season and less than a month until the return of EA Sports' video game, College Football 25, college football fans received more good news this week when “Phil Steele's 2024 College Football Preview” arrived in VIP subscribers' mailboxes.
While the days of walking into your local newsstand and buying multiple copies of college football preview magazines are largely over, Steele's Preview remains the best college football preview around, and fans rely on it as a source of information throughout the season.
So what does Steele think about the 2024 Virginia Tech Hokies? Steele has the Hokies ranked 17th in his preseason Top 25. He likes Virginia Tech's offense, led by quarterback Kyron Draughns, and the Virginia Tech schedule.
In addition to his overall outlook for the Hokies, Steele also likes the roster, having selected 11 Hokies players to preseason All-ACC or All-American teams.
The complete list is as follows:
- QB Kyron Draughns: ACC Second Team
- RB Beischl Tuten: All-ACC 1st and 3rd team as KR
- WR DaQuan Felton: ACC All-4
- C Cayden Moore:: All-ACC Fourth Team
- LB Keri Lawson: 4th All-ACC Team
- CB Dorian Strong: All-ACC Third Team
- K John Love: All-ACC 3rd Team
- DT Aeneas Peebles: ACC Second Team
- DE Antoine Powell Ryland: All-ACC second team
- PR Tucker Holloway: ACC Punt Returner Second Team
Head coach Brent Pry did a great job of retaining many key players during the offseason. Of the players listed above, Peebles is the only newcomer. It is a bit surprising that junior cornerback Mansoor Delane is not on any of these preseason lists. Steele ranked Delane as one of the top 10 cornerbacks in all of college football.
