Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Mike Davis is a promising lightweight.
“Beast Boy” has stopped two of his last four fights and won the other two by dominant force, with his only loss coming on short notice in his debut against Gilbert Burns and an astounding 82% overall win rate. So why hasn't Davis moved up the ranks or really started to hit his stride?
Mainly activity. Five fights in six years on the UFC roster isn't impressive. Davis acknowledged that and set his sights on fighting more frequently, which led to a higher-profile booking at lightweight against fellow action fighter Drew Dober at UFC Denver on July 13, 2024.
Unfortunately, that opportunity was dashed. In the video above, Davis recounts how he tore his bicep during a wrestling workout, and while it appears harmless as Davis tries to get up, a loud bang clearly indicates otherwise.
“Diary entry: June 16th, 2024,” Davis continued, “This is really tough… I completely tore my bicep while sparring on Tuesday, June 11th. I have lost 3.5 inches of my bicep.”
Yes, surgery is required. The tendon has to be drilled back into the bone and reattached.”
It will probably be at least two months before Davis can return to combat sports training, so let’s hope he recovers quickly and that the UFC can find a replacement opponent for Dober.

A duo who had tried to kill each other just a few days earlier.
Javid Basharat took a big step up in terms of name recognition and competitiveness over Chris Gutierrez.
Is fame in America worth 1/20th of the fight money? Apparently not.
Stephen Thompson's ability to maintain balance despite being blind is truly impressive.
I've heard this theory many times. What if Khamzat actually wins the belt? One defense per year (health dependent)? That seems like a problem.
Jairton Almeida is the only reasonable option for Ciril Gane.
Will we ever see another Alexandre Pantoja vs Steve Erceg fight?
Steve Erceg: “I still want to punch Pantoja in the face.”
“He was nice to me, but then he said I hit him like a girl or something. You wouldn't want to say that to me… I don't know what kind of girl he was with, but his face was covered in blood.”

Slip, Lip, KO Clip
It's good to see Kyle Daukas racking up wins, especially finishes, after a tough end to his UFC career, so we're hoping he'll be back!
An 11-second, one-punch KO in the women's bantamweight division seems like a surefire way to land a UFC contract.
Just yesterday I was talking to a teammate and we all agreed that it would be better to have a broken arm than to cut a calf muscle or have your lower leg sliced open doing a banana split.
