A vast complex of football fields in the Newcastle region is set to be improved under a 25-year partnership deal.
BPG Sports, the sports management company that owns the Chase Fieldhouse complex in Wilmington, plans to invest about $16 million in facility improvements at Kirkwood Soccer Club on River Road. The complex is owned by New Castle County.

“This partnership will strengthen athletics in New Castle County and allow us to continue providing top-tier athletic opportunities for Delaware's youth,” said New Castle County Mayor Matt Meyer.
The plans include a multi-year renovation to the artificial turf field and other upgrades, as well as improvements to indoor facilities.
The adult soccer league and recreational youth programs will remain in Kirkwood.
BPG's Rob Buccini said the company is also working on an annual scholarship program.
“We're going to invest over $50,000 a year in scholarships to make sure we're not turning away anybody who wants to play at any level,” Buccini said.
“This will be transformative for the region,” Meyer added.
