The Golden State Warriors defeated the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night, but star rookie Victor Wembaneyama made NBA history. According to Basketball Reference's StatHead, Wenbanyama recorded 32 points, nine rebounds, five assists, four steals, and three blocks, making him the first rookie in NBA history to score or exceed that line in a single game.
Even without rookie eligibility, Wembaneyama became the 19th player in NBA history to carry this line. Add in the players who made three 3-pointers, and the list shrinks to just five players: James Harden, Kevin Durant, DeMarcus Cousins, Kevin Garnett and Wembane Yama.
The Spurs have been playing much better basketball lately and come into this game on a three-game winning streak. Golden State also entered this game on a three-game winning streak, which has now grown to four, making it the second-longest active winning streak in the Western Conference.
The Houston Rockets finally lost on Sunday, losing to the Dallas Mavericks, ending a winning streak that at one point was just a half-game behind Golden State at 11. Sunday's win gave the Warriors a two-game cushion against the Rockets, giving them some much-needed breathing room.
Golden State has a tough game ahead as they face the Mavericks, Rockets, and Mavericks again in their next three games. All three are huge for Golden State.
