Golden Boy isn't giving up on Vergil Ortiz's boxing bout on August 3 in Los Angeles.
Ortiz, a 21-0 (21 KOs) junior middleweight boxer from Texas, was scheduled to face Australia's Tim Chu in a highly anticipated bout before Chu was forced to withdraw due to injuries sustained to the head in his March 30 bout against Sebastian Fandora.
The L.A. card at BMO Stadium, announced Wednesday, is headlined by Terence Crawford vs. Israel Madrimov and will feature heavyweight showdowns between Andy Ruiz vs. Jarrell Miller and Martin Bacall vs. Jared Anderson.
David Morrell and Andy Cruz will also be appearing, while WBA junior welterweight champion Isaac Cruz will defend his title against Jose Valenzuela.
Golden Boy's Eric Gomez is still hopeful that Ortiz might make the show.
“We are looking for the right opponent. After losing Choo it will be difficult to find an opponent of that level, but we have a few players in mind,” Gomez said.
“We are currently working on repairing the match. We are working with the Saudi Arabian organisation Serra Sports to repair the match. We are also discussing the possibility of postponing the match until Choo has recovered.”
“We’re working on a lot of different things.
“They announced it [the show] We were scheduled to play him yesterday, but we were told that if we could find the right opponent, the right player, who we're working with now, we would consider using him.”
