Volkswagen Group (China) Technology Company (VCTC) has partnered with the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) and its members to host a joint plugfest to test and evolve UWB technology and enhance the security of digital keys.
Hefei, China, June 17, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–A majority of respondents in a recent McKinsey Mobility Consumer Pulse Survey, particularly those in China, said they are likely to purchase connectivity features in their next car. As part of its efforts to continually evolve connected car technology, VCTC today partnered with leading automakers and smart device standards group CCC to host a joint plugfest to test digital keys. Through this effort, VCTC and CCC, along with CCC's global automaker and device manufacturer members, will work to advance ultra-wideband (UWB), a key technology that will enhance automotive connectivity to meet consumer expectations and demands.
“Demand continues to grow, especially from Chinese consumers who want and expect connected car features such as digital keys, so it is important that we work together within the CCC to develop unparalleled technology standards that are easy to use and reliably secure,” said the VCTC experts. “Working in a global collaborative environment will help us accelerate UWB implementation, navigate technology complexities more effectively and get to market faster.”
UWB will be a focus of the event as it adds another layer of security to the CCC Digital Key™ standard, enabling fully passive entry by building on existing BLE and Near Field Communication (NFC) technologies. This is a critical step in accelerating the adoption of digital keys, as utilizing UWB, BLE and NFC technologies creates the most complete solution possible, ensuring uncompromising security and performance.
“Continuing advances in CCC digital key technology will enable us to see a future of digital keys that can concretely advance the connected car industry,” said Alicia Johnson, CCC president. “We're grateful to our organizers, VCTC, for supporting such an important event, especially in China, so that we can continue to test and advance CCC digital key technology and bring the best solutions to the global market.”
As a testament to CCC's robust and comprehensive approach to security, CCC was recently certified by the renowned German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) for the CCC Digital Key Applet Protection Profile, making it the only digital key application to receive this security designation. This BSI certification gives CCC Digital Key Certified mobile phone and automotive OEMs worldwide confidence that their digital key implementations will provide users with safe and secure access to their vehicles.
The CCC Plugfest is a key platform for members to refine the CCC Digital Key application and enhance their implementations, specifications, test suites and tools. This week's plugfest runs through Friday. For more information about the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), visit our website.
