The ability to safely maneuver around semi-trucks was recently demonstrated in Las Vegas.
Virginia Tech Transportation Institute's (VTTI) outreach initiative “Share the Road with Trucks” traveled across the country to the city to present at the 2024 Scrap Recycling Industry Association Convention and Exhibition .
“I invited Sharing the Road to the conference because each year there are a significant number of crashes involving commercial vehicles and other vehicles around restricted areas, and I am impressed by the message they bring. ,” said Jerry Shogren, senior director of safety. Scrap Recycling Industry Research Institute (ISRI). “Safety is a core value at ISRI, and through our commitment to our core values, we share VTTI’s mission to make roads safer for everyone.”
During the conference, the VTTI team presented hourly to nearly 6,000 attendees. As of the end of March, the truck-and-road team had completed 276 school visits with more than 35,000 teen drivers and thousands more since its inception in 2017. We held 25 community events.
