The U.S. men's and women's Olympic teams have announced their group stage brackets for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Marko Mitrovic's side were drawn up in Group A with France, New Zealand and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) or African Football Confederation (CAF) representative play-off winners Guinea. The Americans begin their group stage schedule on July 24 against Les Bleus, then face New Zealand on July 27 and AFC playoff winner Guinea on July 30.
Mitrovic's roster will primarily include players 23 and under, but three players older than that will be allowed to play. Gianluca Busio, Cade Cowell, Jack McGlynn and Esmil Vajraktarevic are among the players called up for international duty this month.
The USMNT will play Thierry Henry's France this month in a pre-Olympic friendly, followed by a match against Guinea.
This will be the USMNT's first participation in the Olympics since 2008.
“It's an important day for all teams to learn about their opponents and the challenges that await them at the Olympics,” Mitrovic said. “We know that this is an elite tournament with the best 16 elite teams in each confederation participating. Now you can imagine the opponents, cities and stadiums. The excitement is here. We will prepare in the best way possible to maintain that excitement over the next four months and translate that excitement into results on the field.”
USWNT pairs with Germany, Australia, playoff winners
Emma Hayes, the new head coach of the U.S. Women's National Team, will make her international debut this summer in Paris.
The USWNT will face Germany, Australia and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) playoff winners in Group B. Matches are scheduled for July 25, 28 and 31, FIFA announced.
Unlike the men's tournament, which has roster restrictions, the women's tournament has no roster restrictions.
The USWNT has won four Olympic gold medals, including bronze in 2020.
Lindsey Horan, Sophia Smith, Rose LaBelle and Trinity Rodman will be the main stars of the USWNT heading into this summer's tournament.
The Americans will compete in the SheBelieves Cup in Columbus, Ohio and Atlanta, Georgia this April.
