– South Florida football’s path for the 2024 USF football season announced by Tampa General Hospital, marking the second year under head coach. Alex GoreshThe question became clearer Thursday when the American Athletic Conference announced kickoff times and television rights for the first three weeks of this season and primetime weekday games.
One thing that stood out about the Bulls' announcement on Thursday was the designation of a rematch with USF. September 7, Alabama The game will air on ESPN at 7 p.m. in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Bulls lost to the Crimson Tide, a 2023 College Football Playoff contender and ranked No. 10 in the world, 17-3 after trailing by one point late in the fourth quarter last year in Tampa. The game drew 4.8 million viewers on ABC. This will be USF's second trip to Tuscaloosa; the Bulls lost 40-17 in the first game of the 2003 season, and it will be USF's third full FBS appearance. Alabama leads the series 2-0 and will be led by first-year Crimson Tide coach Karen DeBoer.
In its first season under Coach Goresh, USF has come from behind to win a program-high six games and a crushing 45-0 victory over Syracuse in the Boca Raton Bowl and will open its 2024 campaign with a 7 p.m. matchup. Bethune Cookman August 31 days The game, to be played at Raymond James Stadium and broadcast on ESPN+, will mark the first meeting between the two teams. Bethune-Cookman will be coached by former USF assistant coach Raymond Woody.
The Bulls September 14, Southern Mississippi The game airs at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. It will be the Bulls' third trip to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, but their first since a 27-6 loss in 2003. The teams have been in Conference USA for two years (2003 and 2004) and haven't met since Southern won 27-20 in Tampa in 2004. The Golden Eagles lead the series 3-1.
The Bulls' two weekday primetime games have also been confirmed as kickoffs and televised. Friday, October 11 vs. Memphis The game at Raymond James Stadium will be broadcast on ESPN at 7 p.m., but the Bulls Contest at FAU on Friday, Nov. 1 Kickoff is at 7:30 pm on ESPN2. Memphis leads the series 8-4 and won a 59-50 shootout in Memphis last year. The Bulls lead the FAU series 3-2, but the Owls won 56-14 in last year's game in Tampa.
Kickoff times and television designations for the remainder of the 2024 season will be determined each week throughout the season as part of the conference's 12-day selection process. The up-to-date schedule, including television designations, can be found at GoUSFBulls.com.
The 2024 season will mark American's second year with 14 teams and the first with Army West Point as its football team. The top two teams in the final single-division regular season standings will face off in the 10th annual American Athletic Conference Football Championship on Friday, Dec. 6. The game will be broadcast on ABC for 10 days.Number For consecutive seasons, it will be their first primetime appearance, kicking off at 8 p.m. The American Athletic Conference champions have advanced to the College Football Playoff or a New Year's Six bowl seven times in the first 10 seasons of the College Football Playoff era.
2024 USF Football
USF will return 19 starters in 2024 — nine on offense, eight on defense and two specialists — from a 2023 team that went 7-6 and beat Syracuse 45-0, setting 12 team records and 16 individual program records.
The offensive line's starters include a record-setting quarterback. Byram Brown (Raleigh, North Carolina) and All-Conference Wide Receiver. Sean Atkins (Vieira), as a running back as well. Neiquan Wright (Opa-locka), four starters on the offensive line and tight ends. Gunnar Greenwald (Satellite Beach) and Weston Wolf (Venice) Brown set numerous single-season passing records in 2023, including yards (3,292), touchdowns (26) and completion percentage (64.6%), while Atkins became the program's first 1,000-yard receiver and set single-season records for receptions (92) and receiving yards (1,054).
Defensively, the Bulls return nine of their top 12 tacklers, led by their linebackers. Jarin Shurer (Abbeville, S.C.) recorded a team-high 97 stops and 8.5 tackles for loss in 2023. Three defensive line starters return, including an all-conference honoree. Rashad Cheney (Atlanta, Georgia) The Bulls return four starters in the secondary, including their top four interception leaders, led by safeties. About USF Football
The USF football program first took the field in 1997 and finished its 27th season in 2023 with a program-high six-game comeback and a Boca Raton Bowl victory under a first-year head coach. Alex GoreshUSF will complete construction of a new $22 million indoor performance facility in 2023, and a $340 million on-campus stadium and football operations center is scheduled to be completed by 2027. The Bulls have recorded 16 winning seasons, 16 All-America selections (including two consensus selections, the last in 2021), and 32 First Team All-Conference honorees. USF has had 30 players selected in the NFL Draft, and the Bulls have recorded 11 bowl game appearances (7-4), including a program-record six consecutive appearances from 2005-2010 and four consecutive bowl game appearances from 2015-2018. USF recorded consecutive 10-win seasons in 2016 and 2017, and a program-record 11-2 record in 2016, finishing in the top 25 both seasons. USF was ranked in the top 25 for a program-record 20 consecutive weeks during the 2016 and 2017 campaigns and reached a peak of No. 2 in the Associated Press rankings during the 2007 season.
