Philip Wright, a three-star wide receiver from Destrehan, Louisiana, is scheduled to visit Brian Kelly and the Louisiana State University Tigers on Friday and take part in the program's annual “Bayou Splash” recruiting event.
Wright, a 5-foot-11, 160-pound speedster, recently committed to the University of Michigan Wolverines, but that didn't stop the Tigers from stepping up their efforts to acquire the coveted wide receiver.
He received scholarship offers from major programs around the country and a stellar junior season made him a popular recruiting prospect.
Although his verbal pledge to the Wolverines has been made public, that won't stop LSU from continuing to pursue the in-state star.
A source confirmed to LSU Tigers On SI that the team is looking to add another wide receiver to its 2025 recruiting class and will be pushing to get Wright in town for the game-day experience.
LSU currently has two wide receivers under contract this cycle: Derek Meadows (five-star) and Tarron Francis (the No. 1 receiver in the state of Louisiana).
Now, they are looking for one or two more wide receivers to supplement their 2025 receiver corps.
Full analysis of Wright's game from 247Sports:
“Big-play receiver who can stretch the field vertically or hit the long ball as a short-game catch-and-run threat. Represents the type of speed-oriented weapon who can take alignments at multiple receiver spots and allow the coaching staff plenty of creativity. Confirmed at the All-American National Combine in January 2024 at 5'10″-5'11″ tall and 175 pounds. Posted promising testing data with a 4.52 40 and 10'1″ broad jump, perhaps with a little more room in his frame than video would have predicted. A certified burner with elite track numbers in multiple sprint categories, including a 10.46 100 and a 21.41 200. That Uses speed to get on top of DBs quickly and take the top of the secondary. Dynamic after-catch run threat with screens and quick game. Able to stack cuts in the open field. Shows promising route snapping that should help enhance his ability to consistently create late. Separates when needed. Adding a little weight and strength should also help to that end. With pads on, he may be able to unlock just a little more of his top track speed. Could provide an early special teams option as both a return threat and a dangerous receiving weapon that can move around the formation. Projects as a high-major prospect with a track record and proven athleticism that could carry him beyond the college game.”
The state's top prospects will drive to Baton Rouge to meet with some of the top recruits not only from Louisiana but from across the nation.
Some players to keep an eye on include Jonah Williams (No. 1 safety), DJ Pickett (No. 1 CB) and Harlem Berry (No. 1 RB).
Another key in-state target heading to Baton Rouge is cornerback Aidan Anding, who is ranked No. 2 in the Bayou State, according to a report from Shea Dixon of On3 Sports.
More on Anding and the significance of his trip to LSU:
Aidan Anding: Louisiana No. 2 cornerback
Brian Kelly and the LSU football staff are set to welcome one of Louisiana's top prospects, highly-anticipated cornerback Aidan Anding, to campus this weekend on Friday.
Anding, the No. 2 ranked cornerback in the Bayou State, has been a hot LSU prospect in recent months, with recruiting guru Frank Wilson extending an offer in June.
The 5-foot-11, 160-pound player was scheduled to announce his college intentions at the end of June, but opted to postpone his commitment date after receiving an offer from Louisiana State University.
One of the top athletes in the state of Louisiana, Anding has earned All-State honors in football, basketball and track and field. A true phenom, LSU is stepping up its push with high hopes for another SEC program.
The University of Texas Longhorns were riding high this summer as Steve Sarkisian and company made a concerted effort to land Anding, and now a local team is stepping up their efforts.
LSU Tigers On SI will likely record a prediction that the Tigers will win for Anding once the dust settles after the Tigers welcome Anding to campus on Friday.
We've already seen On3 Sports scouting expert Billy Embody make favorable predictions for Louisiana State as they look to lock down the Louisiana star.
LSU staff will host its annual Bayou Splash recruiting event on Friday, with the Tigers inviting some of the nation's top prospects.
