LOWELL — The University of Massachusetts Lowell hockey team's complete schedule for the 2024-25 season has been released.
The team will open the new season at the Tsongas Center on October 11th and 12th, hosting perennial winner Minnesota Duluth in two games.
“Hockey East will have some great matchups both home and away this year,” said head coach Norm Bazin. “I think this year's non-conference schedule will set our team apart and be really exciting for our players. These experiences will include participating in tournaments in Lake Placid, New York, and Palm Springs, California. The team is excited for the year and the opportunities that lie ahead, and we look forward to having River Hawk Nations as part of this journey.”
The 2024-25 schedule will consist of 34 regular season matchups against opponents from four different athletic conferences.
The new schedule will see an even split of home and away games, with 17 games at the Tsongas Center and 17 away or at neutral venues, a slight change of pace from last season when the team played 19 games on the road.
Following the visit of Minnesota Duluth, the team will welcome Colgate to town for matches on Oct. 18 and 19 before closing out the month with their first Hockey East match of the season in a one-game set at Merrimack.
This sets up the team for an action-packed November, with a game at Holy Cross (Nov. 1), a home-and-home game against Boston College (Nov. 8-9), a road series at the University of Vermont (Nov. 15-16) and a home series against the University of Connecticut (Nov. 22-23).
The Riverhawks will close out the month with the first of two games of the season just after Thanksgiving on Nov. 29 and 30. The team will compete in the Adirondack Winter Invitational in Lake Placid at the historic 1980 Herb Brooks Arena, taking on St. Lawrence in the first game and Clarkson in the second.
UML is scheduled to play two conference opponents in December, visiting Boston University on Dec. 6 followed by a road trip to their home state on Dec. 9. The team is also scheduled to close out 2024 with an exhibition match against Canadian opponent Simon Fraser in Tsongas on Dec. 29.
The new year will kick off with the Coachella Valley Cactus Cup, taking place at Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs, California on January 3-4. The team will face Michigan Tech in the first game and then play either the University of Omaha or the College of Holy Cross the following day, depending on the results of the first game.
The Riverhawks then host two home games against Maine (Jan. 10-11) and Stonehill (Jan. 18) before closing out the month with a home-and-home series against Providence (Jan. 24-25) and another one-game matchup against Boston College (Jan. 31).
February is a month packed with Hockey East opponents, starting with one-game home series against Merrimack (Feb. 1) and Vermont (Feb. 7). The River Hawks will then have a quick trip to UConn on Feb. 8 to close out the weekend.
Next up for the RiverHawks in the Hockey East division is Northeastern University, with a home-and-home series scheduled for Feb. 14-15, followed by a game against Providence College (Feb. 22) and the first game of a two-game series against the University of Massachusetts (Feb. 27) to close out the month.
After a rest day on Feb. 28, the team will finish the Massachusetts series with Game 2 on March 1, followed by a home-and-home series against UNH (March 7-8) to close the regular season. The Hockey East playoffs are scheduled for March 12-22.
