LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Ashton Girotto continues to pile up preseason accolades.
The Louisville defensive end once again earned preseason All-American honors, this time from Walter Camp, ahead of the 2024 season. Girotto was also named to the first team by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
This marks Girotto's third preseason All-American honor. Both Phil Steele and Athlon Sports also selected him as a preseason first-team All-American.
The 6-foot-3, 270-pound edge rusher started all 14 games last season and recorded 14.5 tackles for loss, 11.0 sacks, three forced fumbles and 45.0 total tackles. His sacks lead the ACC, rank eighth in the FBS and currently ninth in Louisville history for single-season sacks. His 58 quarterback hurries are ninth in the FBS, according to Pro Football Focus.
As you might expect, the Boca Raton, Fla. native garnered a lot of accolades for his performance as a junior, as he was named to the All-ACC First Team, was the runner-up in ACC Defensive Player of the Year voting, and was named to the All-American Second Team by Walter Camp, USA Today, Sports Illustrated and The Athletic.
Girotte enters his senior season with 29.5 tackles for loss, 22.0 sacks, four forced fumbles and 88 total tackles in 37 career games with the Cardinals. He currently ranks 10th in Louisville history in career sacks.
The Cardinals finished the 2023 season with a 10-4 record (7-1 in the ACC) and the team's first-ever ACC Championship Game appearance. Head coach Jeff Brohm's second year is scheduled to open on Saturday, Aug. 31 against Austin Peay at L&N Stadium.
