UFC middleweight Chris Curtis tore his hamstring in his fight against Fight of the Year candidate Brendan Allen last weekend in Las Vegas.
Curtis (31-11) appeared to injure his right leg in the final seconds of his split decision loss to Allen at UFC Fight Night. An MRI scan confirmed this week that he suffered a grade 3 tear in his hamstring. This is almost a complete separation.
Mr Curtis, 36, revealed the extent of his injuries on social media, saying he was “awaiting further information”. His agent at Iridium Sports Agency told ESPN that he is exploring options for recovery. If he can avoid surgery, he should be back in six to eight weeks. If the injury requires surgery, he would be sidelined for nearly six months.
The five-round 185-pound fight was close throughout, with Curtis advancing and Allen scoring several key takedowns. This was a rematch of a match that took place in 2021. Curtis won his first fight by TKO and is already calling the final trilogy bout. Curtis agreed to play in both bouts on short notice after Allen's original opponent withdrew due to injury.
Curtis falls to 2-3 in his last five fights with the loss, but is still ranked No. 14 in the UFC's middleweight division. Allen is ranked 6th.
