NEWARK, NJ – BMF Titles has been on a roll lately.
Introduced in November 2019 when Jorge Masvidal defeated Nate Diaz by TKO at UFC 244, the BMF title was initially expected to be a one-off.
However, the belt was reclaimed nearly four years later when Justin Gaethje knocked out Dustin Poirier to win the vacant title at UFC 291. Gaethje defended the title against Max Holloway at UFC 300 in April, but was knocked out in the final moments of the iconic fight.
UFC CEO Dana White hinted that the next bout is already in the works.
“We're working towards the BMF title right now,” White told MMA Junkie and other reporters during the UFC 302 post-fight press conference.
Holloway is expected to be the next opponent for featherweight champion Ilia Topuria, who has requested that the BMF title also be on the line.
“I'm not worried at all. I'm happy that people love the belt and want to fight for it,” White said of Topuria's request. “I'm happy. … We're working on a lot of things right now. Of course, we have the Sphere in September. We have Madison Square Garden in November. There's a lot of big fights around that time, so we'll figure it out.”
