Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is just over three months away from his last professional fight and his first return to the ring in nearly 20 years. On July 20, Tyson will compete in an exhibition boxing match against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which will be streamed live on Netflix.
Tyson has begun making media appearances in the lead-up to his long-awaited fight.
In a recent interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity, he revealed that he is “scared to death” about his upcoming fight with Paul. However, Tyson also clarified that this is an exhibition fight and as the fight gets closer, it becomes more real to him and his nerves fade.
“And actually, I'm invincible,” Tyson told Hannity.
Paul hopes to fight Canelo someday
Jake Paul's current boxing record is 9-1 with 6 knockouts, but half of his fights have come against debutant boxers, including former NBA player Nate Robinson. Paul most recently fought Ryan Borland in Puerto Rico in March, winning by TKO in the first round. Before that, he fought Andre August in December 2023, winning by first-round knockout.
Paul was very clear about who he wanted to fight in the future: Mexican boxing star Canelo Alvarez.
After defeating Borland by TKO, Paul told Canelo, “I know what you want. I represent Puerto Rico and you represent Mexico. So it's Puerto Rico vs. Mexico.”
Canelo has made it clear that he has “absolutely no interest” in fighting Paul.
Canelo: “Tyson vs. Paul is not a fight, it's a show”
In an interview with TMZ Sports, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was asked if he would be interested in a Tyson vs. Paul fight. When asked if this fight would open the door for future fights, Canelo simply replied, “Absolutely not.”
“I think Netflix is good for this fight, not just for boxing, but they're doing it wrong,” Canelo said. “This is more of a show than a fight.”
Canelo Alvarez will face fellow Mexican fighter Jaime Munguia on May 4th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
